緑字斎一家、アメリカ大陸横断記　7月28日
7月28日　我々はルートをUS-550NORTH、US-50EASTととってデンバーに向かうことにした。このルートのあたりはコロラド・ロッキーといわれる山岳地帯で、途中、まるでスイスのような可愛らしい町Ourayがあり、そこで昼食をとり、子供たちには素晴らしくうまいアイスクリームを奮発した。　渓谷には澄んだ川が走り、川下りのグループを幾つも見かけることができた。　今まで、乾燥地帯を走っていたので、水や緑がふんだんに見ることができるのは、やはりほっとする。　このあたりから多くなるのは、道路に飛び出すリスである。この小動物は意外に動作が鈍く、高速で走る車のそばで立ち尽くしてはきょろきょろしているのだ。小生も極力轢かないように努力しているが、随分の数の轢かれた姿を見た。　ドライブルートは急峻な山道なので退屈はしないが、崖が多く、どうしてもセンターに寄りがちになる。そうでなくても、対向車への反応が、崖のためについ崖下に視線が行き、少し鈍くなっているので、時々、内心ひやりとすることもあった。　深い緑と、時々ウエットになる山岳部の天気、肌寒いくらいの場所もあり、道端の高山植物の愛らしさに車をとめてばかりいると、風でもひいてしまいそうな気がする。　Salidaに到着。　ここでは折から、ヒル・クライミングのカー・レースが明日から行われるので、あちこちから凄い車が集まり、どこのバーもモーテルも公園も関係者とその家族で埋まっていた。小さな町なのだが、皆浮き浮きしているようだった。　ここで特筆すべきは、ダウンタウンへの入口にあるレストランで食べたチキンとリブのBBQ。実に軟らかく、うまいものだった。 #: 43615 S1/United States 28-Jul-89 03:04:01 Sb: ACROSS the USA Fm: AKIRA KAMITA 71721,1645 To: 1 Hi! I wanted to write about my trip, from L.A. to here, but I could not upload my reports to this network during a few days. Because I could not access to here. In Japan, many computer networks use usualy the type of modem by TTICC, but Bell's modem isn't popular. It took a long time until I understood that I must connect to the access point by Bell's type. I have driven from Hollywood(21 Jul.); New Port(22) - Needles(23) - Gland Canyon(24) - Kayenta(25) - Monument Valley - Cortez(26) - Mesa Verde; to Durango(27). I have had many experience with depth. I think I'd like to report my mind to dear networkers, include the report until now. Tomorrow, I want to approach Denver, if possible. However my purpose of this trip isn't only the arrival, because I think the important thing is to acquire something from the process of a travel, usualy giving us new and impressionaly experiences. My summer trip is following... By the way, Could you show me whether I may upload to this "message" board. If there is more suitable section, could you show me the section. New York is an expensive city, but less so than Tokyo. Is there any particular area in which you'd prefer to stay? And do you wish a room or an apartment or suite? Best rates are available on weekends when there are less business travelers in town. For discounts in Hotels, you might want to call Woodside Travel Management, 1-617-426-7661. They often have special rates for corperations that they pass on to individual travelers. For a furnished apartment, try calling "N.Y. Bed and Breakfast", 1-212-595-5000. And for Suites in several NY residential hotels, call the "800" operator and ask for the toll free phone number for Manhattan East Suite Hotels. Let me know what they offer you, and then I'll look around and see if there's any better deals I can find. Oh, when you get to NYC, I would advice you to return your car to Hertz quickly. In the city there's no place to park, and the car is a problem rather than a help. Dennis, I decided to take I-90, from Rapid City to Chicago, for your suggestion. I thought it is like very interesting route as wild and scenic. Do you live in Wall? I thougt surely that Wall Drug is one of the scenic points. Any way, I have a interest in Wall Drug! Perhaps it'll be Monday, may I visit that place of interest, with my wife and my children? I'm staying at Salida, and I'll go to Denver tomorrow. Jerry, Thanks for the tips. I decided to take I-90, from Rapid City to Chicago, for your suggestion.
I thought it is like very interesting route as wild and scenic.
