8月2日　ミネソタに入る。　　ここも自然の何もかもに恵まれた素晴らしい農場が続く。　Albert Leaという町はMinneapolisの南にあり、その郊外の住宅地のような閑静な町に思えたが、地図を見ると相当はなれている。　しかし、ここの住宅地は実に美しい。よく手入れされた芝生、だからこそ映える樹木、白を基調に薄いグレーや緑、青をパステル画のようにまとめた家々は、そこに住む人々のマイホームというものの考え方を如実に示すものだ。 #: 43861 S1/United States 02-Aug-89 00:25:18 Sb: #43802-ACROSS USA Fm: Dennis Larson 75555,705 To: Susan M. I'm at Chamberlain, South Dakota. I stayed at Custer last night, but I could not access to Compu-Serve node in Rapid City. Because the tellephone of the motel was bad. I think the phone could not connect a direct long distance telephone call, not assisted operater, for the account of that motel. That motel may be not prepare without calling by Credit Card. That motel's phone prepared only '9 + 0' for long distance call, not '9 + 1'. But I could not call even an operater by '9 + 0'. I don't know well about the system of tellephone in the U.S.A., so this is only my guess. In the meantime, I went to Black hills, Rapid City, and Wall Drug. Dennis, I misunderstood about Wall Drug. I thought that you concerned in Wall Drug. Because I thought, at first Wall Drug was a place of interest, next time it was a drug store, and you must be there living in Wall. So I mistook that your massage, "When in South Dakota, don't forget to visit Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota.", was written of meeting me. Ha ha!! Perhaps this came of that I didn't know about Wall Drug. But it was realy interesting for my family. In driving around Rapid City, We saw many saignboards of Wall Drug, written fragmentary advertisements. What is this? It was like a detective quiz for us. Moreover I could not connect to Compu-Serve. Ha ha! We enjoyed very much for this, during the driving to Wall. I bought two ten-gallon hats there for my children. By the way, would you enjoy this like a joke? Susan-san, (Yes, good Japanese greeting!!) I was given the most impression by Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. Why these exist? Were these realy the things creating by nature? I think it is very mysterious and so miraculous. What to know the unknown things is how wonderful experience! My route untill now; Jul. 21 Hollywood - 22 New Port - 23 Needles - 24 Grand Canyon(I could not had the lodging in the park) - 25 Kayenta - 26 Cortez - 27 Durango - 28 Salida - 29 Denver - 30 Loveland - 31 Custer - Aug. 1 Chamberlain My travel is following... Hello! I'm at Chamberlain, South Dakota.
I stayed at Custer last night, but I could not access to Compu-Serve node in Rapid City. Because the tellephone of the motel was bad.
